Donald Trump Vs CNN Vs 40-Year-Old Posing as a 15-Year-Old vs Reddit: This Summer's Greatest Internet Smackdown- Dank Memes Gang Blog

If you’re just recovering from your Fourth of July festivities, you might not be up to speed on this week’s prime meme revolution. It all started just before the weekend, when President Donald Trump posted a now-deleted tweet of a gif of him a wrestling Vince Mcmahon with the CNN logo superimposed onto his head and the hashtag #FraudNewsCNN #FNN .

Like any other social media spectacle Trump displays, there was a backlash of response by the internet :

However, the story evolves even further as CNN reacted to this tweet. CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski tracked down the Reddit user that created the gif going by the name of ‘HanAssholesolo’.

After further investigation, CNN stated that ‘HanAssholesolo’ had other racist and anti-semitic posts on his history. The user has now gone dark on Reddit but not before posting an apology publicly. This was due to CNN’s threats to expose the user's actual name, location and age apparently. The post was put up on R/thedonald but has been removed by the moderators (quote below):

"First of all, I would like to apologize to the members of the Reddit community for getting this site and this sub embroiled in a controversy that should never have happened," he wrote. "I would also like to apologize for the posts made that were racist, bigoted, and anti-semitic. I am in no way this kind of person, I love and accept people of all walks of life and have done so for my entire life. I am not the person that the media portrays me to be in real life, I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction from the subs on Reddit and never meant any of the hateful things I said in those posts. I would never support any kind of violence or actions against others simply for what they believe in, their religion, or the lifestyle they choose to have. Nor would I carry out any violence against anyone based upon that or support anyone who did." Then further saying: “I am not the person that the media portrays me to be in real life,” “I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction from the subs on Reddit.”

CNN then threatened to share the posters civil identity if he ever trolled or posted again. CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same. CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.

There are multiple internet and social media sites response to this occurence. In typical internet fashion, when a company or entity tries to censor or police the internet, it usually backfires with a blast of memes and posts and articles. This is exactly the response seen this morning and afternoon, as dozens of posters reacted to CNN’s bullying of a private citizen.

Posters parodied CNN in a slew of different styles and memes. Including the new country differences and the ‘this looks like a job for me’ Eminem meme.

Opinions are mixed about this topic since some of ‘HanAssholesolo’s’ posts were “troll-like” and racist. But does that give CNN the right to bully him? What were his real intentions? Is he really a racist troll, or is he just doing it for the lolz? All we can say is that is occurrence makes for one interesting summer throwdown that we can’t stop watching.
